Preview: Norwich City vs Manchester United

How to follow the match: Saturday's Barclays Premier League encounter at Carrow Road will kick off at 12:45 BST. It will be broadcast live in the UK on BT Sport, while fans can also follow the action via ManUtd.com’s live match blog and the club’s official Twitter account @ManUtd. MUTV's preview show Match Day Live starts at 11:45 BST and that will be followed by live radio commentary on the channel, with the match shown in full at 18:00 BST on Sunday.

Scene-setter:
Both sides enter this clash with much still to play for. Although United’s hopes of a top-four finish seemed to take a hit after dropping points against Leicester last week, neighbours Manchester City’s subsequent defeat to Southampton means the Reds can close the gap to one point. Norwich, meanwhile, will be out to notch a strike a huge blow in their bid for Premier League survival. The Canaries - who currently languish in 19th place - have it all to do, but with a game in hand over fellow strugglers Newcastle United, Alex Neil’s men know that a win over the Reds could be pivotal.

Form guide:
Louis van Gaal's men are on a run of five games without defeat, including the dramatic FA Cup semi-final win over Everton at Wembley, but that sequence will be threatened on Saturday afternoon. Although Norwich have endured a torrid campaign at times, they frustrated Manchester City in mid-March by holding them to a goalless draw at Carrow Road.

Latest team news:
In a season plagued by injuries, the Reds are now closing out the campaign in rude health. Aside from Luke Shaw and Bastian Schweinsteiger, manager Louis van Gaal has a full selection to choose from, with places in the squad for the FA Cup final still very much up for grabs. Norwich aren’t quite as fortunate as United, with midfield regular Alex Tettey out for the season with ankle ligament damage and Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom, Ryan Bennett and January signing Timm Klose also all absent. Influential defender Klose is bidding to be fit in time for Euro 2016.

Trivia:
Ryan Giggs is United's top scorer in Premier League games against Norwich with four goals but Wayne Rooney would equal that tally if he nets on Saturday. The skipper's three strikes at the Canaries' expense include a brace in the Reds' 4-0 win at Old Trafford in April 2014 - Giggs’ first game in charge as caretaker manager.

View from the dressing room: “We’ve hit good form towards the end of the season, but now we’re relying on other teams. We’ll just have to keep working and trying to take maximum points from now to the end of the season and see where we end up.” - United captain Wayne Rooney.

Opposition manager: Alex Neil has been in charge at Carrow Road since January 2015. The Scot guided the Canaries to promotion into the Premier League at the first time of asking, thanks to a 4-2 win over local rivals Ipswich in the play-off final, but this season hasn’t been as kind with only eight wins all season. Still, Neil remains confident of securing safety, stating recently: “The game at this level is defined by small margins and that will be the case in the remaining three games. If we find ourselves on the right side of those fine margins, then we have a good chance of staying in the league.”

Last meeting:
This result will certainly give hope to Norwich supporters ahead of Saturday’s meeting, who would have been as surprised as anybody when Cameron Jerome and Alex Tettey put the Canaries 2-0 up at Old Trafford in the final game before Christmas. Anthony Martial managed to claw one back for the Reds, but it was too little, too late as a difficult December for United continued.
